Sinhala and Hindu new-year was celebrated at Guidance International School Kesbewa on 8th April 2019. Sinhala and Hindu New Year; Avurudu Festival is an important national festival for both Sinhala Buddhists and the Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka. It is celebrated with the belief of sun's movement from the Meena Rashiya (House of Pieces) to the Mesha Rashiya (House of Aries) Sri Lankan welcomes the New Year. The intension behind conducting such events in school is to inculcate good habits, rituals, customs and traditions in our youngsters.
The festival comprised with simulations of customs such as visiting the temple during the non auspicious time , overflowing milk, trading with the well, planting a tree symbolizing the start of work, par taking the first meal, anointing oil, playing raban etc.
